Hazel Watson

Hazel Watson moved to Mole Valley in 1988, has been an active campaigner for our area for over twenty five years, and has represented the Dorking Hills area on the County Council since 1993. She has led the Liberal Democrat group on the County Council since 2004 and, although an opposition member, was elected Vice Chair of the Corporate Management Select Committee for three years and Chair of the Adult and Committee Care Select Committee for a year.

She is a non-executive director of the Mole Valley Housing Association, a governor of The Ashcombe and Surrey Hills schools, the Chair of the Malthouse Youth Centre Steering Committee and ProjX, and is a member of the Ewhurst Brickworks Liaison Group. She was, until it was abolished, a member of the Surrey Police Authority and has also served on the Board of Age Concern Surrey.

Hazel is married to Michael and has two grown-up children. She initially worked for the Confederation of British Industry where she developed Education and Training Policy and then qualified as a solicitor specialising in intellectual property litigation. She has also served on the Quaker Council for Social Responsibility & Education.

We live in a beautiful area and we need to work to keep it so. It is also vital to provide cost effective services so that everyone has the support they need in the way they need it to enjoy a decent standard of living.
