Working for Boxhill / Headley

Our work has included:

Cycling – Olympic Legacy

Worked to create an effective Olympic Legacy, funding safety features on the Leith Hill mountain bike trail, limiting closed road cycle events to one per year in the area, and lobbying for the regulation of sportives.

Ensured that the Surrey Cycling Strategy recognises that there are a range of opinions about the benefits and negative consequences of cycling and seeks to address the issues caused by sport cycling and mountain biking.

Whilst the RideLondon used Surrey roads, ensured that the PruRideLondon Organisers recognised that the roads remained open to pedestrians during the event (except when the roads are controlled by the police whilst the professional peloton passes) and that competitors and marshals were properly briefed and could anticipate that pedestrians would be using the road during the event.

Parking of Commercial Vans

Arranged for double yellow lines in Woodlands Park at the request of residents to prevent the parking of commercial vans in the road (consistent with all other roads off Boxhill Road) and worked to resolve the issue of commercial vans parking in Boxhill Road.

Arranged for double yellow lines, as agreed with the Boxhill Neighbourhood Council, on Boxhill Road from the Village Hall to the junction with Ashurst Drive which reinforce the parking restrictions set out within the Highway Code (no parking at or opposite junctions etc) and around the entrance to Upper Farm.

Road Surface by the Boxhill Village Gateways and 30mph Roundels on Boxhill Road

Arranged for the coloured road surface by the village gateways to highlight the existence of the village to drivers.

Arranged for 30mph roundels to be painted on Boxhill Road to remind drivers of the speed limit and, hopefully, to reduce traffic speeds along the road.

516 (Noe No 21) Bus Service

Campaigned to improve the 516 service – obtaining a later weekday service back from Leatherhead and, for a while, a Sunday service. Arranged for the bus clearway to be introduced opposite Roof of the World.

Arranged for the new turning circle to be implemented close to the Viewpoint so buses can continue to serve the village even when the area is crowded.

St Andrew’s Church

Provided funding for the path from the car park to the kitchen at St Andrew’s Church and for the resurfacing of the car park.

Road Shops Forecourt

Arranged for the environmental enhancement project to be carried out which involved a new hard surface being provided on the forecourt and landscaping around the area.

Thames Water

Worked with a resident to get Thames Water to investigate the smell of sewage near Brockham Warren, for the blockages in the sewage pipes to be cleared, for the spilt sewage to be cleaned up, and for the sewage system to be enhanced so that the problems do not recur.

Footpath alongside High Ashurst

Arranged for the footpath alongside High Ashurst to be designated as a public right of way by foot.

Speed Limits

Arranged for lower speed limits on roads either side of Headley village to help reduce the speed of traffic through the village by reducing the speed of traffic approaching the village and for 30mph roundels to be placed on Boxhill Road.

Tar Path, Headley

Arranged for the Tar Path to be resurfaced and for remedial action (including the installation of a soakaway) to be taken when the new surface failed.

Headley & Boxhill Computer Clubs

Provided funding to the Boxhill and Headley Computer Clubs.

Affordable Housing

Campaigned for affordable housing – and for special regulations to help young people find housing which they can afford in their own villages.

Road Repairs

Arranged for Nut Ash Lane to be repaired and white lines placed on each side to slow traffic.

Road Gritting

Ensured local roads were added to the County Council’s gritting schedule.

Road Signs

Ensured that the chevrons were replaced on Tot Hill and in Headley Road when they collapsed and that the missing “Village Gateway” sign at the bottom of Tot Hill (close to the junction with Lodgebottom Road) was replaced.

Rusty Spikes on Footpaths

Arranged for rusty fence spikes to be removed from footpaths 499 and 515 in Headley.

Blocked Drains

Highlighting blocked drains and gullies in Tot Hill, Broome Close, Church Lane and Boxhill Road were cleared.

Nower Wood Grant

Supported a grant for rebuilding the Nower Wood Education Centre.

Headley Playground

Provided funding towards the fence around the playground.

Drainage Channel Ashurst Drive

Arranged for a drainage channel to be installed across the top of Ashurst Drive to prevent rainfall running off Boxhill Road down Ashurst Drive.

Boxhill Over 50s Club

Provided grant funding towards the cost of the Club’s Cristmas Outing 2015.

Cherkley

Campaigned against the construction of a golf course at Cherkley.

  1. Laurence Bridges says:

I congratulate you and all of the Liberal members who are working really hard to put right the worst past and present excesses of the Tories in the Mole Valley.
What would we do without your dedication – what indeed!
