Our work has included:
Meadowbank, Meadowbank Cafe, Play Area and Skate Park
Promoted the building of a Cafe on Meadowbank. Ensured public consultation on the childrens’ play equipment to be installed at Meadowbank which ensured the refurbishment responded to the wishes of residents and introduced the skate park.
Arranged for the acoustic fence to be constructed on the north side and south side of the stadium to shield residents from noise from the ground.
Identified funding to allow the area to the west of the stadium to be opened up with the broken fence and excess vegetation removed whilst protecting the habitat for the slow worms on the mound closest to the stadium.
Promoted the path in front of Pippbrook Mill as a public path and sought to ensiure that the path was included on the definitive map of footpaths in Dorking.
Church Street and Ashcombe Road Pavements and the paths across Meadowbank
Arranged for the pavement in Church Street between Station Road and Myrtle Road to be leveled so elderly residents could use the path without fear of falling and arranged for the pavement on the south side of Ashcombe Road to be resurfaced so children can walk to school without having to walk in the road to avoid deep puddles.
Ensured that the paths around three sides of the Football Ground and up to the Railway Bridge (access to Ashcombe Road) were widened as part of the Football Ground redevelopment and, arranged for the installation of a new drain on the west side to prevent flooding on the path.
Residents’ Seasons Tickets
Introduced Season Tickets for residents in the District Council Car Parks at a sunstantially discounted rate to that charged to commuters who live outside Mole Valley.
Residents Parking Schemes and Commuter Parking
Actively supported resident groups working to introduce residents parking schemes in the Rothes Road / Wathen Road / Hart Road / Hart Gardens / Ansell Road area, Lincoln Road, Fairfield Drive, Meadowbrook Road, Myrtle Road, and Curtis Road, arranged for one hour parking restrictions introduced on the Deepdene Avenue service road, Calvert Road and Chichester Road to stop all-day commuter parking, and arranged for parking restrictions to be introduced around the entrances to Deepdene Avenue Road and Brook Close and near the Esso Garage.
Opposed the issuance of business parking permits within the Residents Parking schemes (except two per business for businesses located within the scheme area).
Promoted the discounted Worker Parking Permits for lower paid employees at the St Martins Walk and Southside car parks.
Ensured the Bowling Club (as a longstanding neighbour) received vouchers so that Members and Visiting teams can park in Drill Hall Road when the County Council withdrew the right for anyone to park in this private road.
Green Belt Review
Successfully opposed proposals to revise the green belt boundary to the west of the town which would have seen new housing estates built between Dorking and Westcott.
The Malthouse Youth Centre
Led the successful campaign for The Malthouse to be redeveloped as a new youth centre for Dorking with an outdoor sports facility.
BMX Track
Successfully prevented the District Council from “selling off” the Ranmore BMX Track to a private operator, ensuring that it was kept open and free to use.
West Street and High Street
Promoted the Environmental Improvement schemes for West Street and the High Street with York stone paving and iron streetworks.
Waiting Restrictions
Arranged for double yellow lines to be introduced along Ashcombe Road and at the top of Chalkpit Lane (north of the railway bridge), on Ranmore Road alongside the high wall, on Chalkpit Lane, and across the Junction with Ranmore Road to prevent dangerous parking, at the entrance to Parkway, and along Mill Lane to prevent parking when drivers can easily use the District Council car park.
Roads Resurfaced
Promoted the resurfacing of local roads: West Street, South Street, Vincent Lane, Rothes Road, Wathen Road, Hart Road, Hart Gardens, Ansell Road, Mill Lane, Old London Road, Ranmore Road, Mowbray Gardens, Pippbrook Gardens, Meadowbrook Road, Myrtle Road, and Milton Court Lane have been resurfaced.
Cyclist – Pedestrian Conflict on Dual Use Cycle Paths
Arranged for the dual use path on the east side of Deepdene Avenue to be segregated for pedestrian and cycle use to reduce pedestrian – cyclist conflict and to improve cyclist safety by keeping cyclists away from cars pulling out of concealed entrances, for the duel use path at the corner of Station Approach and Deepdene Avenue to be widened, for a clear “end of cycle path” sign to be erected at Drill Hall Road to show that cyclists are not permitted on the narrow pavement in West Street between Drill Hall Road and Station Road, and for the dual use cycle path on the A24 in front of Mowbray Gardens to be clearly signposted with cyclists directed not to cycle through the bus stop where pedestrians will be waiting on the footpath.
Church Gardens
Campaigned for and ensured that the District Council refurbished the six “homeless persons” units in Church Gardens and brought them up to the “decent homes” standard. The apartments had been allowed to deteriorate so badly that they were threatening the fabric of the whole block.
Supermarket Development
Supported Waitrose, Lidl in Vincent Lane and the Tesco on the Reigate Road as the appropriate supermarkets to be developed for Dorking whilst opposing supermarket development at St Martins Walk, which would have blocked views of St Martins Church, increased congestion in the High Street, and caused the bus stops outside the White Horse Hotel to be removed, and the proposed supermarket development at Curtis Road.
Drainage on the Reigate Road
Ensured the drainage issues which caused flooding on the A25 Reigate Road near the Deepdene Ropundabout were resolved.
On-Street Parking Charges
Successfully opposed the proposed introduction of on-street parking charges in the town.
Pedestrian Crossings on Ashcombe Road and Deepdene Roundabout
Arranged for the pedestrian crossing at the A24 end of Ashcombe Road to be installed (we wish it was further along the road but this cannot be achieved without the loss of the mature trees by the road).
Arranged for the pedestrian crossing on the A24 by the Deepdene Roundabout to be installed so residents from the Deepdene Vale area can easily walk into town.
Old London Road Footpath
Arranged for the footpath linking the exit from Meadowbank to the footpath by Fairfield Court to be carved out of Old London Road.
Station Approach / Lincoln Road
Arranged for the markings on the road behind the traffic island at the entrance to Station Approach to be altered to show that the right hand turn into Lincoln Road is a permissible turning.
Meadowbank – Mill Pond
Supported the environmental improvements on Meadowbank with the improvements to Willow Walk and the Mill Pond.
Dorking Halls and Dorking Sports Centre
Supported the development of the Dorking Sports Centre, the Dorking Halls and the Cinema into the facility that they are today.
Bus Services
Arranged for “real time” bus information to be introduced at the bus stops at the Railway Station and campaigned for introduction of Sunday bus services between Dorking and Guildford / Reigate / Horsham.

Arranged for 2-hour limited parking outside Fairfield Court to provide free parking by Meadowbank and prevent commuters parking all day.
“No vehicular access to Sondes Place” signs have been placed on the Sondes Place Drive road nameplates.
Arranged for “Cyclists Dismount” signs to be painted on the path on the north side of the Mill Pond (where the path narrows between the Clubhouse and Fairfield Drive).
Drivers beware: Pedestrians in Road sign installed at the bottom end of Mill Lane by the junction with St Martin’s Walk Car Park.
The town path near Leslie Cottage was patched.
Safety audit was carried out on the Deepdene Avenue cycle path and new safety features introduced (reflectors on the poles obstructing the path, give way markings, and demarcation of the path to keep cyclists away from the the blind entrances to the houses driveways
Arranged for the road sign on Deepdene Avenue to be repaired when it was damaged and pointing in the wrong direction.
Culvert underneath Meadowbank from opposite Myrtle Road to the Mill Pond cleared to prevent flooding.
New bus shelter on the Westcott Road by Hanover Court
Introduced “no access to Milton Court” sign in Milton Court Lane.
Seats installed in the High Street by the bus stop outside Superdrug, in Chalkpit Lane by Vine Court, and seat repaired in Church Street.
Rubbish bins installed in Ashcombe Road and Limeway Terrace.
Posts installed to promote child safety opposite St Martins School.
WigWag installed by St Martins School
Signage erected to highlight traffic queues by the Ranmore Road tip with “Keep Clear” signs by the tip to help keep traffic flowing
Railings alongside the A24 by Mowbray Gardens and Croft Avenue painted.
Introduced consistent 40mph speed limit on the Westcott Road to slow traffic approaching Dorking.
Arranged for the roundabouts in Fairfield Drive and the area at the corner of Calvert Road to have the overgrowth cut back and the areas tidied.
Arranged for heritage street lights to be installed in Rothes Road and Jubilee Terrace.
Arranged for vehicle activated speed signs in Ashcombe Road.
Introduced additional lighting on path between Deepdene Vale and Lincoln Road.
Arranged for the parapet on the walkway by Pippbrook Mill to be repaired.
Filled in the wall on the lowest deck of St Martins Walk car park and arranged for the outside area on the previous floor to be fenced off to stop noise disturbing local residents.
Installed lights in the courtyard at Archway Place and by Leslie Lodge.
Funded new boiler at the Christian Centre and contributed towards the refurbishment of the kitchen.
Provided funding towards the improvement of the courtyard at the United Reformed Church.
Arranged repair of the wall between the United Reformed Church and the West Street car park.
